Brickgrip brilliant for garage storage

August 24th, 2008
· Filed Under: Latest Updates

brick grip I picked up the brochure for this product quite a few months ago and ‘discovered’ it again when tidying up my office! You could ask ‘why I didn’t show this earlier’ but it wasn’t until I visited the site and their video loaded that even I realised the true potential of it. WHOA! If like me, you have a garage or carport with a brick wall and the thought of all the hassle involved in drilling holes and inserting those special plugs to put the screws in, then measuring to do it again etc, so you can hang a few things up, is all to much  then this is your answer!

BRICKGRIP means you elimate all that stuff on your garage floor by hanging it up in a matter of minutes! it’s absolutely brilliant. I’ve been lamenting the state of my own garage lately because of this very issue. That the link to brickgrip and make sure you watch the video that way you can really understand what it does. Their catalogue provides a variety of design options for different applications - surf boards, fishing rods, plant hangers etc.

I shall place my order as soon as I go and assess what I need to hang etc and therefore what I’ll need to fulfil the purpose - as should you if you’re going to buy them. It’s not the best online ordering in the world but hey! ya can’t have everything. This one gets my vote for easy and simplicity of application and a great product to help one have an organised home that’s free of floor clutter.

P.S. it’s just a link, not an affiliate product, I gain no compensation from it.

 The mental clutter that stops you before you start

Radio micWithout exception the mess you find yourself in is entirely a result of what’s going on (or not going on) in your mind, whether you like or hate that idea here’s the upside.  The absolute one thing that you have total control over in your life is your thoughts, with the exception of mental illness cases of course. Really consider that, whilst you may have great influence, be that positive or negative  over  kids, parents or pets, career etc, You do not have ultimate complete and total control over them or over anything else for that matter, in fact that very sense of no control is at the heart of many of our fears and anxieties.  BUT, the upside is we can with practice, control what we think & change our attitudes.

I really like the metaphor ‘when you’re up to your waist in crocodiles it’s hard to remember that your original objective was to drain the swamp’!
In other words when your living in the middle of a mess it’s extremely difficult to see how or where to start, and that’s where most people come to a halt. The task seems so mentally emotionally and physically overwhelming that you simply have no clue what part to attack first and so you don’t.
The simplist quickest most effective solution of course is to hire help but when that isn’t an option there are a number of strategies to choose from, one of which will suit you, depending on your circumstances.

There are many other emotional issues that prevent you from taking action but that’s a whole topic in itself, what’s important for you to realise is that YOU are your MAGIC solution and you CAN do it - decide on it!  You simply need to take action, change habits and implement systems to overcome and continue to have control of what is in fact your life expressed through your home! But  I guarantee The sense of liberation & satisfaction is SO fantastic that it’s worth all the effort.

That’s it for this time next episode I reveal the secret weapon of the super organised.

Cooking without Planning

August 14th, 2008
· Filed Under: Latest Updates

foodI just opened an email that a friend sent last week and followed the link she had attached. I am so excited about this site I just had to post about it immediately. You see I don’t cook! My partner really enjoys cooking and finds it relaxing! (can you believe it - but hey each to their own! I find organising relaxing! go figure!)

So he does all the cooking - I don’t mind baking sweets but otherwise if I have to cook for myself I’m lucky if I bother to cook some pasta and through some stir-through sauce over it! Buttered crackers is a common option for me! WHY? because I can never think of what I can make out of the ingrediants we have and searching through recipe books to find something that has those ingredients is a complete pain!

But this site is the solution and I offer it here for a number of reasons. 1. Realisitically it’s not possible to be totally organised all the time and even the best organised person will find those times when it’s necessary to create a meal out of what’s left in the fridge. 2. If you’re yet to get around to sorting out a meal planner system this could be a very handy tool. 3. If like me you aren’t the one who cooks but sometimes finds yourself ‘on you own’ and you, also like me, have no intention of ever planning for those occasions if when you’re aware of them beforehand then this is definitely a brilliant tool.

Go checkout cooking by numbers if you don’t alredy know about i, I think it’s brilliant!

Jill Butler New Book - It’s not about stuff

July 26th, 2008
· Filed Under: Latest Updates

Jill Butler at homeSometimes I wonder that people feel that the aim of clearing clutter is to reduced them to a minimalist appearance in their home. It’s certainly easy to think so and it may well feel that way after you have de-cluttered simply because the contrast is to great. But a minimalist look is a style and thus a choice you make not just about your home decorating but about life. Personally I’m not a minimalist fan, I reckon it’s hard work to keep a home looking that austere and most of the designs I’ve seen lack warmth and don’t feel inviting and comfortable. They are and must be the epitome of organised but heck, it’s too extreme for me.

[Photo -CLOE POISSON / HARTFORD COURANT / July 15, 2008]

That’s why this article by ANNE FARROW - Special To The Courant,  really attracted me and I thought it was well worth sharing. It’s about artist Jill Butler and her new book ” Create the Space You Deserve : An Artistic Journey to Expressing Yourself Through Your Home.”  The article states that;

At a time when Americans are faced with the prospect of less, Butler’s book about making a home is not about acquiring but about letting go, and about what we need to truly sustain the spirit of a home. It’s not about stuff.

YES! That is sucha core element of what so many Organisers are trying to get across to their clients. Whilst letting go is a key elementin the success of a de-clutter process it’s also about recognising and getting to the core of what you really do and don’t need. Part of the process that Butler went through is exactly what I cover in my free guide (upper left) and is part of the Peter Walsh philosophy, Farrow stated it this way;

For each of her rooms, she made a list: What is the room’s purpose? What are the tasks I want to do in this room? What does it need to contain and look like to make me comfortable and happy?

There you have it! the core of the planning process for both de-cluttering your home or re-decorating it.

I can’t wait to get hold of this book to read about her journey to create a home that expresses her personality and supports her life physically and emotionally - her kitchen sounds truly individual!
