what you must know before tossing things into the trash
It really is worthwhile knowing this information before you get started decluttering, so that you can allocate specific things to a least one pile that should be dealt with appropriately after the major sorting is done. Now It would be suprising these days to find a home that doesn’t have old unused mobile phones lying around as well as computers, printers and similar paraphenalia. Because of the nature of the parts within these items they are NOT supposed to be disposed of in general landfill. in other words don’t toss them into the trash can, wheelie bin,
The great thing is that there are plenty of places that will take these kinds of goods and recycle, repair & donate, or correctly dispose of them.
For example used printer cartridges can be taken to any Australia Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Tandy, Dick Smith Electronics or PowerHouse outlet.
Old sight and reading glasses can go to OPSM, Laubman & Pank, Budget Eyewear or Vision Plus stores.
Visit recycylingnearyou.com.au for loads of options to dispose of things like
• Batteries - Rechargeable & Single use
• Computers and Electronic Waste
• Corks
• Gas Cylinders
• Mobile Phones
• Medicines
• Plastic Check-out bags
• X-Ray Films
mobilemuster.com.au is a great site where you can find where to dispose of mobile phones in your area And freecycle.com.au is a great site to advertise useable items that you aren’t selling.
The RSPCA are always pleased to take old but serviceable blankets and towels, and if you have items of historical value then contact your local historical society or the National Trust in your state.
If you make a list of the types items that should be recycled you can put them all in one bag or box to be dealt with as an action step of it’s own.
Remember that sometimes once you get in the declutter groove and really wanted to clear things out it’s easy to just want to chuck things out regardless - do try to be responsible though it’s better for everyone all round.
That’s it for this time, next episode list some of the kinds of items that you might not think are clutter but really are.
